Ed Tobin was admitted to practice in New York State in 1989 and began his association with our firm shortly thereafter, becoming a partner with the firm in January 1997. Ed successfully tried several multi-million dollar cases to verdict for doctors and hospitals, defending claims of medical malpractice. He also represents counties, cities, towns and school districts with regard to civil rights claims, zoning claims, and claims of general municipal negligence. Ed has represented counties, hospitals, and individuals in environmental hazards litigation, lead exposure, legionnaire’s disease and other environmental contaminations. Ed has successfully defended municipalities in both State and Federal Court on civil rights claims including 42 U.S.C. Section 1983 and Section 1985 actions. He has represented some of the nation’s leading insurers defending both personal injury litigation claims as well as insurance coverage issues. He has been involved in significant decisions in areas of municipal liability and medical malpractice.

Ed represents small to medium sized businesses in litigation matters: contract disputes, commercial litigation, noncompete agreements, failures of performance, filing of liens, unfair competition claims, among other business matters. While Ed successfully tries business matters to verdict for his clients, he also recognizes and utilizes avenues of alternative dispute resolution and has a reputation as a capable negotiator for his clients.

Born in Albany, Ed has strong roots to the Capital District and its legal community. Attorneys in his family have included his grandfather, mother and father, and his wife. He is a former Director of the National Kidney Foundation of Northeast New York. Ed has lectured for the New York State Bar Association, Albany County Bar Association, Lorman Educational Services, New York State Small Business Development Center, and Northeastern Subcontractors Association, of which he is also a member. Ed writes a monthly column for Success magazine called "The Legal Side". He has appeared on WABY radio, speaking on small business legal matters.

Ed has a “BV” rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory (exemplary reputation, well established practice and high professional standing).
