Stephen Prudente joined Maynard, O’Connor, Smith & Catalinotto in 1976. Upon joining the firm, he worked in the firm’s civil litigation practice, most specifically in the areas of medical malpractice defense, product liability, municipal defense and insurance law. Since 1988 Steve has concentrated his practice on Matrimonial and Family Law, which includes separation, divorce, pre-marital agreements, child support, and issues of child custody and visitation. He also represents health care facilities and families in obtaining guardians for incapacitated individuals.
Whether in Court or through negotiation, Steve advocates for his clients in a professional and zealous manner, while at the same time, is sensitive to the variety of emotions necessarily associated with matrimonial and family issues. In addition to the emotional impact of this type of work, these areas of law can also be a financial drain. Steve uses a team approach to address these factors. He utilizes a secretary and a paralegal in conjunction with voicemail and e-mail, to keep on top of his clients concerns, to keep his clients informed and updated on the progress of their case, and to provide high quality legal services at a more affordable cost. Members of this matrimonial/family law team have many years of experience in these areas of law, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
Steve volunteers his time to handle pro bono cases on behalf of The Legal Project and the Legal Aid Society, and as requested by the Courts. He was recruited to serve as a Board member of the not-for-profit group, The Legal Project, established by the Capital District Women’s Bar Association to provide free legal services to the working poor. Steve is also a member of the American Bar Association - Family Law & Practice Management Section; the NYS Bar Association - Family Law Section where he is a member of the Committee on Legislation and the Committee on Membership; Albany County Bar Association; Capital District Women’s Bar Association. He has been a contributing author to Lexis-Nexis publications.
